Gala dinner to help Make It Better for hospital patients
As a charity which supports Sheffield Children’s Hospital, we know that physical activity plays a vital role in the recovery of our patients.

That’s why we’re proud to be partnering with the Olympic Legacy Park (OLP) as it aims to become internationally recognised for health and wellbeing research.

We’re thrilled to be teaming up with the OLP for Sheffield’s Celebration of Sport event on October 5 and honoured to be one of two benefitting charities. There really is so much sporting talent in this city so it’s brilliant that we can shine a light on that legacy.

The money raised at the gala dinner at the English Institute of Sport Sheffield will help fund a Multipurpose Fluoroscopy System for the children’s hospital. We urgently need this specialist piece of equipment to enable our highly skilled radiologists to diagnose and provide treatment which in turn will give the best possible chance of a full and healthy life for our patients.

Fluoroscopy obtains real time X-rays that are in fact moving images that show the internal parts of a patient’s body. A continuous X-ray beam is passed through the body part being examined and the beam is transmitted onto a monitor. If you aren’t sure why we would need to view moving images, think about when a child has an accident which has caused internal bleeding. Doctors need to urgently see where that bleed is to stop it. This new Multipurpose Fluoroscopy System will enable very rapid diagnosis and surgical intervention, without the child needing to go into the operating theatre.

The Children’s Hospital Charity funds projects that are over and above the standard NHS provision - providing life-saving specialist equipment, vital research into the prevention and cure of childhood illnesses, new facilities to extend the range of treatment provided and changes to the hospital environment to make it more child friendly.

Previously as a charity we’ve funded a special gym for the Cystic Fibrosis Unit at Sheffield Children’s Hospital and we’re currently fundraising for new equipment for our physiotherapy team through our Virtual Stampede, where we’re asking people to run, swim, walk or cycle a minimum of 60k. This campaign is teamed with the Herd of Sheffield elephants you may have spotted throughout Sheffield!

We’re really looking forward to attending the OLP’s gala dinner and meeting some incredibly talented sporting stars, while spreading the word about the work we’ve been doing here at The Children’s Hospital Charity.

We really want to create a hospital that’s been designed with children in mind and this event will help us to do just that.

Let's make it better together!
